Getting your blood work done is a proactive step toward understanding your overall health. The Complete Blood Count (CBC) Panel by AlphaDERA Labs is a comprehensive evaluation of your blood's essential components: Red Blood Cells (RBCs), White Blood Cells (WBCs), and platelets. This panel measures the type, quantity, size, and other vital blood cell metrics. The insights obtained allow for early detection and monitoring of potential medical conditions.
This Complete Blood Count (CBC) Panel measures the following blood metrics to help identify disorders or infections:
Red Blood Cells (RBCs):
- Responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body.
- Abnormal levels can indicate conditions such as anemia, malnutrition, or leukemia.
Hemoglobin:
- A protein in red blood cells that binds with oxygen.
- Hemoglobin levels reflect the blood's oxygen-carrying capacity.
Hematocrit:
- Measures the proportion of blood volume occupied by red blood cells.
- High or low hematocrit levels can suggest various health conditions.
Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV):
- Determines the average size of red blood cells.
- Helps identify types of anemia and other blood disorders.
Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin (MCH):
- Calculates the average amount of hemoglobin in each red blood cell.
- Valuable in diagnosing anemia.
Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC):
- Assesses the concentration of hemoglobin in red blood cells.
- Useful for identifying different types of anemia.
Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW):
- Measures the variation in red blood cell size.
- Can provide insights into the causes of anemia.
Platelets:
- Small cell fragments that play a crucial role in blood clotting.
- Abnormal platelet levels can indicate clotting disorders or other conditions.
Mean Platelet Volume (MPV):
- Evaluates the average size of platelets in the blood.
- Can help in diagnosing platelet disorders or bleeding disorders.
White Blood Cells (WBCs):
- Integral part of the immune system, defending against infections and diseases.
- Abnormal WBC counts may indicate infections or other health issues.
Neutrophils:
- A type of white blood cell that plays a primary role in combating bacterial infections.
Lymphocytes:
- White blood cells that are crucial for the immune system, including T cells and B cells.
Monocytes:
- A type of white blood cell involved in immune defense and removal of damaged cells.
Eosinophils:
- White blood cells that are active in allergic responses and parasitic infections.
Basophils:
- White blood cells involved in allergic reactions and inflammation.

FAQs
A Complete Blood Count may also be known as a CBC, Complete Blood Count with Differential, CBC with Diff, Blood Cell Count, or Full Blood Count.
A standard CBC measures the total number of white blood cells without distinguishing between their types, while a CBC with differential classifies and quantifies the individual counts of the 5 different white blood cell types: neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils.
No, anemia results from insufficient hemoglobin levels, whereas iron deficiency is characterized by a lack of iron. You can have an iron deficiency without anemia, where your hemoglobin levels remain normal despite insufficient iron. However, iron deficiency anemia involves both low hemoglobin and iron levels. It's worth noting that anemia can also be caused by factors other than iron deficiency, like blood loss, inflammation, various nutrient deficiencies, and specific medical conditions.
Typically, healthcare professionals recommend having a CBC test, along with other routine blood tests, on an annual basis.
A CBC test with differential provides insights into your overall health and can help screen for various health conditions like anemia and infections. For a more comprehensive evaluation of liver and kidney function, it is advisable to opt for a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) test.
